These mice are actuall Beige Brindles, but their colour resembles the standards for Tortoiseshell. Australian SH Brindle Mice from the Pipsqueeks mousery. |
Tortoiseshell is sex-linked semidominant variety, like the Brindle (Mobr). Only female mice can be Tortoiseshell and they they have irregular patches of full colored and very lightly colored fur over the whole coat. The vibrissae are slightly wavy and the coat has a slightly silky texture.
One can have light coloured Tortoisehell looking mice with the viable yellow (see: Brindle) homotsygous with extreme dilution gene (ce/ce).
